What I'm Reading

Well. I'm so far behind on my reading round-ups and so close to the end of the year where I'll do my big review of my favorites, I am thinking that right now I'll just tell you a little bit about the books I'm reading right now. Yes, books. Plural. I'm kind of in the middle of a few, in some form or another. People always ask me what I'm reading though, right? So here it is:

1. I started this one in January I think. And then after the first chapter I realized it would probably be better to read this with my camera actually in hand to try to do what it's saying {ding! lightbulb!}. (I have a Canon Powershot S5IS, in case anyone is curious in knowing) And, well, that takes more time and commitment and I haven't gotten very far. But I'd already added it to my Goodreads "currently reading" list. And so there it stays. I still consider myself to be reading it. Sort of.

2. I'm about halfway through this. It is a collection of essays written by Malcolm Gladwell for The New York Times (I think - don't quote me on that). Some have been quite interesting. Some, not so much. So I dabble a little bit in it here and there. Non-fiction is good for that sort of thing. Making slow progress.

3. I'm not sure I'm really reading this one. Not yet, anyway. And it really is just coincidental that I'm mentioning this on the same day as the big Duggar announcement that they are expecting #20. But I just grabbed this from the library out of curiosity and of course I immediately flipped through and read random tidbits. I haven't seen the show. But from the little I know, some things about them and/or their philosophies make me feel uncomfortable. I am interested, though, in examining what it is exactly that makes me feel uncomfortable and why I feel that way. And like any other parenting book I've read, I am always interested in reading what works for other people and pulling out the things that work for me and feel right for us and very respectfully throwing out what doesn't.

I respect them tremendously for doing what they feel is right. That's all that any of us can really do anyway, right? But especially doing something so widely criticized and far from the mainstream. Goodness, I know I felt like an outcast just for breastfeeding past a year. I can't imagine this.

So, I may just continue to browse this. Or I may actually sit and read it straight through. I haven't decided yet.

4. I loved Chocolat and Five Quarters of the Orange so I grabbed this at the library one day. It's supposed to be the sequel to Chocolat. It's taking me awhile to get into this one though. Feels a little bit forced, as a sequel, to me. But maybe it just has a slow beginning. We'll see. I'm about 100 pgs in.

----------------------------

Maybe I'm just in a reading rut, where I'm just not terribly excited about what I'm reading for a little while (possibly not even related to the books in and of themselves). It happens sometimes. It could be that. That's often when I end up in the middle of several books, when one doesn't capture my attention enough to keep me faithful (haha). Oh well.

What are you reading lately?? Anything good? Please share. We need to talk about books again!

(oh and speaking of which, my bookclub has dissolved. Again. So I am especially lonely for book-talk. And just lonely. Talk to me please!!) :)

Just finished "The Night Circus" and am in the middle of "The Tiger's Wife". I've got a few on the table, but... just need to get into them.

would you recommend those two, Christina?

yes. I went to a book signing of "The Night Circus". It's her first novel, the signing was a lot of fun and the author was really down to earth. It's brain candy, but it's fun. It is her first novel. The Tiger's Wife is good, but very depressing thus far. I think that's why I took a break from it for "The Night Circus". I don't mind depressing books, but I needed a break. Especially since I had recently read "Never Let Me Go".

I'm reading "The League of the Scarlet Pimpernel" right now. So far so good. If I had another day in the week and we had a few more interested ladies in the neighborhood, I'd love to get the book group going again. Maybe someday.

I recently read Unbroken, which is amazing. I just read Divergent, which is good. Right now I am reading Crossed, the sequel to Matched, and enjoying it. I will then read Brisingr and Inheritance, the last two of the Eragon series, well it's actually called the Inheritance series. I do miss book club. I even miss your online one.:(
